T3: Great Art Thou Collection?
What Defines Your Hobby?
Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Fans of Tomicas - everyone is a collector regardless of size of their collection and in time, the collection will grow. One of the best things about collecting miniature diecast models is that there will be plenty of capacity for growth since they take up lesser space than larger scale models.
Well we all started with just one piece didn't we? That reminded me that my first Tomica was the 50-Nissan Fairlady Racing - so, do you remember what's yours?
A Latin phrase "adde parvum parvo magnus acervus erit" speaks of perseverance and translated, it means to "add a little to a little and there will be a great heap". This is something I had given thought before. Some folks would buy all available models (e.g. Tomica Limited 0001 to 0100) from an Ebay or Yahoo auction in a single sweep as they may have a very generous budget. However, does that make him/her a great collector? A great collection that we can surely agree, and maybe an envy of others perhaps.. but where has it gone? The fun and satisfaction to hunt down rarer models, negotiating trades, unearthing value-for-money deals and the act of imploring friends and family to buy when they travel overseas etc.
In short, I define a collector not by what has been collected but how he/she collects them.
Share Ye Share Ye
Last but not least, a hobby can only be as great as how the collector strives to be. It is passion and drive that varies widely among collectors. Step right up and be counted. Showcase your hobby, be it through a Blog or Photo Gallery. I have found that by sharing, we ourselves will think more broadly and learn new stuff about the hobby. Therefore, I'm sure in time to come, this will bring back fond memories of my days of Tomica Collecting.
